In this article we’ll be taking a look at the most relevant compositions that received changes in this patch. It won’t be as deep a dive as our regular tier list and we won’t be touching on every comp, but rest assured that you’ll be up to date on the new developments and compositions in the meta.
Table Of Contents
Brawler Blaster
S > S+
What Changed?
- Red Buff nerfed slightly
What Does This Mean?
Not much changed with the composition but that is precisely why it rose in the ranking. Jinx is the premium 4-cost carry in this patch and that is why the two best compositions in the game use her as a carry. Brawler Blasters have very little bad matchups, and they remain strong throughout the whole game, although they do fall off slightly in the very late-game usually they won’t let it get to that point.
Rebels
B > A+
What Changed?
- Ziggs buffed
- Yasuo buffed
What Does This Mean?
Rebels were already on the upswing at the end of last patch and they’ve received nothing but buffs in this patch. Their effectiveness is limited by the amount of 5-costs they rely on, which usually results in them losing a lot of HP early game in order to reach level 8 quickly. Not hitting Gangplank can result in a bottom four quite easily.
Mech Infiltrators
A+ > B+
What Changed?
- Mech Pilot nerfed
What Does This Mean?
On the contrary, Mech Infiltrators were already on the downswing at the end of last patch and now they’ve received yet another hefty nerf. The nature of the composition itself seems to not be able to be restrained as the composition has lived through every nerf it has received so far. This one appears to be no different as the composition is still seeing regular play at high levels.
Shredder
A+ > A
What Changed?
- Xayah nerfed
What Does This Mean?
Xayah lost some damage in the form of losing about 10% of her base AD, but this has been somewhat outweighed by the Deathblade buff, which has become her new damage item of choice. Since Poppy is being played less, Last Whisper is less required and therefore this comp is still seeing good results with more item flexibility in this meta.
Candyland
A > B
What Changed?
- Poppy nerfed
- Twisted Fate nerfed
What Does This Mean?
The two most important units in the composition both received significant nerfs, unlike Shredder, there is no alternate itemisation to get around these nerfs. The composition is much less effective than before, but still a playable composition if you’re uncontested (which should happen more often now!).
Willy Wonka
A > C
What Changed?
- Poppy nerfed
- Twisted Fate nerfed
- Chalice of Harmony nerfed
What Does This Mean?
This variation of Candyland suffered from the nerfs to the standard plus some additional nerfs to the popular Sona “Mana Printer”. I don’t see this composition seeing much play anymore (for good reasons).
Chrono Kayle
A > A+
What Changed?
- Kayle 3* nerfed
- Karma buffed
- Wukong adjusted
What Does This Mean?
The difference between 2 and 4 Chrono is not that much and that fact, along with the buffs to Karma has resulted in a slightly different variation of this composition being the preferred one. Running 2 Mystics with Karma buffing Kayle has proven to be very effective in this meta.
Void Brawler
A > B-
What Changed?
- Chalice of Harmony nerfed
- Vel’Koz buffed
What Does This Mean?
The composition was lacking before the Chalice of Harmony buffs a few patches ago and the nerf to it this patch is sure to set it back to where it was before the patch. The composition is seeing some life in the form of alternate item builds, including Zeke’s Herald stacking to give attack speed to the main carries of the comp.
*NEW* Sorcerer Gangplank
Unknown > A
A pretty simple composition that relies on some specific items (Guardian Angel on Gangplank is the important one). Play 6 Sorcerers with Gangplank, add Demo at Level 8.
*NEW* Ziggs Reroll
A hotfix is live.
A new composition that sprung forward after the Ziggs buff. When he has 2 Seraphs he will never stop casting, and his insane base ability damage combined with the damage buff from Rebels means he will shred through whole teams on his own.
Tiaan has been playing TFT since its inception. He finished Challenger in S1, got Challenger in S2 (then decayed after), and has even achieved Rank 1 in Set 3. He enjoys sharing his passion for the game with our readers and helping them climb!
